It’s cold outside and our Merch by Amazon upload limits are freezing.

What happened to our Merch by Amazon Upload Limits?

A couple weeks ago, Merch by Amazon put a hold on all users uploading shirts to Amazon. The great Amazon Merch Freeze of 2017. In November our upload limit went from 10 to 5. In December it fell from 5 to 2, and then none. We were confused at first, and wanted to share our findings on this.

Why did this happen?

We are going to briefly explain what is going on with the Merch by Amazon platform, and why no one is currently able to upload new designs to Merch by Amazon.

1. They warned us.

Simple as that. They halted our uploads on the 5th, and it looks like we’ll get an update on the 19th. Stay tuned.

2. It’s the holiday season.

Q4 has historically been when people sell the most product. It’s just how it works. I know I’ve bought more stuff these past few weeks preparing for the holidays, so imagine that when everyone in the world is purchasing more than normal. Amazon is having a hard time keeping up with demand.

3. Everyone is trying to upload.

Because of the general craziness of the holidays. Everyone is trying to capitalize on this time and upload more designs. This means more work for Amazon, and they’re likely having a hard time keeping up.

4. It happened last year.

Last year Amazon had to place upload limits and couldn’t keep up with the demand, and there were far fewer people using Merch By Amazon then.

When will our Merch by Amazon uploads be unfrozen?

Let’s take a look at when we can expect to have our accounts opened back up so we can populate our stores with new content.

1. No one knows for sure.

The great thing about Merch by Amazon is that they control all the logistics behind making, shipping and fulfilling the shirts. It’s a sweet deal. It’s also a double edged sword because if Amazon ever decides they don’t want to support MBA anymore they can pull the rug out from under us (as they have currently).

2. See the above photo.

That being said about Amazon, they are updating us on our accounts as much as they can. Regularly checking your account and staying up to date with the community will help you stay informed about this issue.

3. It will probably be after Christmas, January or February.

My partner was recently on the phone with an Amazon rep and they shared with him how swamped Amazon is. The company is growing like a weed and is having a hard time keeping up with customer demand during this busy season. Last year Tolkatore experienced the same thing and shared it in this post.

What can I do?

1. Keep designing.

Merch by Amazon upload limits are completely out of our control.

2. Explore other print on demand platforms.

Check out these platforms and keep yourself busy by uploading content to these sites. Even though they aren’t as heavily used. Anything online will increase your chances of making a sale!

3. Be patient.

Unfortunately, there isn’t anything we can do to change what Amazon does. Unless you want to get a job at Amazon and climb their corporate latter until you run the division (not a bad idea). That being said, keep working hard, and the freeze will end soon!
